Our story

The Crown of Thorns™ represents the still small voice of hope and stability.

Why a Crown of Thorns™?

Crown of Thorns™ began as a very personal project.

Faith has always played an important role in my family. My mother was Norwegian and grew up with a strong Lutheran influence. My great-grandfather was the Choir Master of Dunblane Cathedral (his tuning forks can still be found in the Cathedral’s museum today!).

In particular, my paternal grandfather had a profound influence on me. He was a non-conformist minister who built his own church in Crosby, where he served the community for 39 years. His dedication, humility and compassion shaped the values that have stayed with me throughout my life.

That said, we were far from a perfect Christian family. Like many, ours was perhaps better described as a part-time Christian household. As I grew older, my own faith followed a similar path. I would never claim to have been a perfect follower of Christianity. Like most people, my faith has come and gone, often raising as many questions as answers. Loving your neighbour feels understandable, but extending that love to your enemies can be harder to grasp. Part of that difficulty, I think, is that God can sometimes feel distant and abstract. In contrast, I have always found something deeply real and relatable in Jesus. He lived among us and experienced the full range of human life, its challenges, doubts, temptations and hardships. Because of that, his words and his example have always made sense to me in a very direct and human way.

Through his life, he showed us how to face those challenges with courage, compassion and hope. My connection to Jesus’ teachings made me wonder how I could bring those values into everyday life - something visible, personal, and meaningful.

It was this that led me to Crown of Thorns™, with one simple goal: to create more opportunities for Christians to express their faith with confidence and pride. The cross is, of course, the most recognised Christian symbol, but I wondered whether there might be another way to reflect the message of Jesus.

The Crown of Thorns came to mind. Although it was originally placed on his head in mockery, I have always seen it differently - as a crown of courage, and ultimately, of victory.

Working with a British jewellery designer, we created a design that captures that symbolism in a way that is elegant, subtle and distinctive. Each piece is crafted in England and reflects the enduring values that Jesus taught: compassion, humility, forgiveness and love for others.

Crown of Thorns™ is also intended to give something back. Ten percent of profits are donated to Christian charities and organisations that support communities and young people searching for purpose and belonging.

For me, Crown of Thorns™ is about celebrating the message of Jesus and the values he stood for - values that remain just as important today as they have ever been.
